An Evening At The Concerts. 3/ Marlene Kuntz

Sarò breve. Non tanto per scelta, più che altro per il fatto che io dei Marlene Kuntz so poco e niente. Non ho mai ascoltato un loro album dall'inizio alla fine nè mai prima di ieri li avevo visti in concerto. Comunque, vedrò di farmi una cultura su di loro, perchè ammetto che mi hanno incuriosito, a tratti. Stiamo parlando di un gruppo con un'attività ormai ventennale sulle spalle, e infatti si sono dimostrati impeccabili nell'esecuzione. A parte quello, li ho preferiti nelle canzoni più rumorose e mento cantautoriali, che purtroppo erano in minoranza nella scaletta. Interessante anche l'improvvisazione (che per quanto ne so potrebbe essere anche una canzone, ma a me è sembrata inequivocabilmente un'improvvisazione) a metà del primo bis, e il momento recitativo-declamatorio di Godano, forse l'unico momento valorizzato dal trovarsi in un teatro (il teatro della tosse, per la precisione). Avrei voluto vederli una decina di anni e possibilmente stando in piedi. E possibilmente in piedi anche loro, a differenza di ieri, dove pareva di trovarsi davanti un "unplugged". Poco convincente la cover italianizzata di "Here comes the sun" dei Beatles.
E bon.

I’d gladly watch all his scenes every weekend for the rest of the year. He can’t sing at all, but he doesn’t need to: he’s Pierce Fucking Brosnan. I can’t explain it, but there’s something in the very essence of that man that makes me warm inside, and when he wasn’t on screen I spent the time of his absence ardently anticipating his return. Have you seen him in The Matador? I love him in that."

An Evening At The Concerts. 2/ Mogwai+Errors+Chris Brokaw

Premetto che avevo già visto i Mogwai una volta in passato, nel 2002 al Frequenze Disturbate di Urbino, nel periodo di Rock Action. Ed era stata un'esperienza illuminante e sicuramente difficile da dimenticare. Da allora al concerto di ieri sera, al Rolling Stone di Milano, sono passati sette anni e tre album nuovi. Tre album, alla fine dei conti, deludenti (soprattutto l'ultimo). Tre album che magari apprezzerei in qualche modo se non portassero la firma Mogwai, gli stessi Mogwai che hanno firmato "Ten Rapid", "Come on die Young", la raccolta "Ep+6" e un CAPOlavoro come "Young Team". Ma c'è poco da lamentarsi e rifarsi al passato con la nostalgia sulla punta della lingua, il tempo passa per tutti e non è clemente con nessuno. Stadifatto che ero convinto, oltre ogni ragionevole dubbio, che non ci sarebbe stata alcuna delusione per quanto riguarda il lato live. Comunque, partiamo dal principio.
Apre il concerto Chris Brokaw, di New York, ex-Codeine e ex-Come. Una buona mezz'ora di canzoni chitarra e voce, con stile, mai calcate troppo, a volte tirate leggermente per le lunghe. Un opening act onesto e per niente pretenzioso.
Seguono gli Errors, compaesani dei Mogwai, i quali non solo li hanno presi sotto l'ala protettiva della Rock Action records, ma se li sono anche portati dietro in tour. Indie rock strumentale molto new-wavey sposato felicemente con un orecchiabilissimo synth-pop. Mai banali, precisi e simpatici (soprattutto il batterista che continuava a ridere senza una ragione). Se possibile mettete le mani sul loro debutto "It's Not Something but It Is Like Whatever".
E che dire infine dei Mogwai? La scaletta non mi ha convinto appieno, per le ragioni illustrate più in alto, ma questo non toglie davvero nulla al concerto. I cinque ragazzi sanno tirare su dei muri di suono devastanti, e a volte a vederli li, i tre chitarristi e il bassista, immobili, sguardo perso nel vuoto, viene davvero da chiedersi che non siano i fottuti cavalieri dell'apocalisse. Dal vivo, (quasi) tutte le loro canzoni funzionano perfettamente. Ovvio che per "Mogwai Fear Satan" l'atmosfera era surreale, così come per "Like Herod". Ma anche "Batcat" e "We're no here" hanno fatto il loro sporco lavoro. La vera soddisfazione per me è stata "Summer", perla indimenticabile e forse canzone-prototipo del suono tipicamente mogwaiano.
Detto questo, rimane poco altro da dire. Stando in prima fila con davanti gli amplificatori di Stuart Braithwaite diciamo che i suoni erano un po' confusi, un altro modo per dire che mi stanno ancora fischiando le orecchie.
Ad ogni modo, a conti fatti i Mogwai difficilmente daranno mai delle delusioni live. E questa non è cosa da poco.
